Love Letters from Fans....

Two thumbs up! My own two thumbs, that is. Just watched LLTE and I LOVED it! I’ve seen bits and pieces of it here and there, but never the whole thing, and the added director’s memoir is the perfect touch. Edie was a diamond in the rough in many ways, but first and foremost she was something of a rarity: a genuinely kind, gentle, and caring person. It’s a shame she had such a rough life, but hopefully this documentary and the films of John Waters will continue to show what a unique and intriguing person she was.  Sounds a bit silly, I know, but I’ll cherish this DVD forever. Whenever I’m feeling sorry for myself or can’t see the happy forest for the sad trees, 15 minutes with Edie will help get me back on track.

thanks for making the film... i've had the pleasure of introducing my fiancé to john waters' films, and most fun of all, miss edie. he was taking about her performance in pink flamingos for days, and is moving through my collection quickly. it was a treat to be able to share this film with her, too. i never tire of watching her; she performs with such innocence and lack of guile that the bizarre getups he puts in never taint her underlying pleasant character.

Hi Robert ...

I want to say thanks so much for the Love Letter to edie DVD! It has to be one of the most poignant short films I have ever seen and the subject was so intense,it made me feel much close to Edith Massey than I ever imagined!I first saw Pink Flamingoes and female Trouble as an 18 year old back in 1985.A stroke of luck at a flea market enabled me to get both films for £5 and they quickly became cult movies at my college. It wasn't uncommon for 20 students to come back to my house in the evenings to watch them, sometimes repeatedly! Back in those days we used to do crazy things.6 of us made a short film on the bits you didn't see! One example being Taffy going to the junkyard to buy "props for her morbid little games" and another was Edie and the Eggman visiting a chicken farm! One of the guys at school lived on one! I don't know what his dad thought seeing this 300 pound girl (Mandy, who we bribed with free lunch for the term) screaming with excitement at all the chickens and eggs!.  I saved up money from my summer job to buy a camcorder (it weighed around 20 kilos!) and attempted to be the John waters of my year.  Unfortunately the people we approached to take part in films usually were mortified, but we made a few. I enjoyed your nterview very much.  As I said it enabled me to feel I almost knew Edie and this DVD has certainly kept her alive. The clip of Edie as a brothel Madam was fantastic and I think that cat on the leash  has a descendant in my garden! Thanks again for making this a happy week. Best wishesDavid

Hello Robert,    I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the dvd of "Love Letter To Edie". Since I first saw John Waters' "Pink Flamingos", I have been a fan of hers.  As John has said about her, "She would steal the scene in many of his movies. She had a screen prescence all her own."  I can't tell you how cool it is for me, as a fan, to actually have been in contact.....via email....with you. With someone who actually knew her and was her friend. I only wish I would have asked you to autograph my dvd for me...

I think Edith would be very happy with the kind of recognition she is getting now......maybe more than she even received back in the 70's. Watching "Love Letter To Edie" was very entertaining. She, as always, was very funny and loveable with a quirky sense about her. That is what made her so special.  I have to admit that when you talked about her getting sick and passing away, it was very sad to me and it made me wish I could do something more for her.  But I guess remembering her this way......with films and posters, books, and all sorts of memorabilia, she will live on for years to come. Thanks, Patrick

Robert,
Just wanted to say that we watched the movie and really dug it -  One thing I didn't realize at all is that you are actually the guy who directed the movie!! I was amazed to find this out. I'm a huge John Waters fan (especially of his pre-Hairspray films), and really loved Edie Massey. My wife Laura and I have been wanting to see "Love Letter to Edie" for years, but it's been out of print for a long time and I thought we'd never see it. When I saw it on Ebay, I couldn't believe my good luck - and I knew it would really surprise my wife for her birthday (which it did). But it's even cooler to know we got it right from the director.
It's a really cool movie, Robert. And a really nice testament to Edie. You should be proud.
All the best,
Lauran

Dear Robert:Thanks for putting this film out on DVD. It felt so good to watch it. I knew Edie back in the 1970s. I watched the film with Gregg M. and another friend the other night. It brought back a lot of memories. We also enjoyed your 15 minute discussion. Warm wishes from Baltimore, Jeffrey

Dear Robert,

Just a quick note to tell you how moved I was by your film, I just loved it. You captured a side of Edith Massey that her movies could never convey. I twas in every sense like visiting with an old friend. Your eloquent commentary was brilliant ~ thanks again for the wonderful gift you've given to so many with the release of this film.

Kind Regards, Peter
